|Maternity & Paternity|
If you’re looking at this section, the chances are you’ve probably got some good news on the way. In which case, congratulations!
If at any time during your GP Training you wish to take maternity or paternity leave, NHS North Lancashire will be the organisation to process this for you. The first piece of advice is to contact your local department or Practice and inform them of your plan to take leave. That is to ensure they have enough time to plan whilst you are away. At this point it is also recommended that you ask for a Pregnancy Risk Assessment to be completed by your Clinical Supervisor if you are applying for maternity leave. The next person to contact will be your Training Programme Director in order to review your educational plans.
NHS North Lancashire will need to be informed so that they can process your maternity/ paternity leave application. There is a one page application form contained within the policy which you will need to complete and this will need to be submitted with the mother’s ORIGINAL MatB1 form (this is usually obtained around 25 weeks from the midwife – only a copy is required if you are wishing to take paternity leave). The address to send these to is:
NHS North Lancashire
Moor Lane Mills
For any trainee planning on taking maternity leave, should you at any stage feel that Occupational Health support would be of benefit to you please contact your local Occupational Health department. Should you struggle to be seen promptly then please contact NHS North Lancashire and you can access their Occupational Health services.
A copy of the relevant policy can be found on this page which should explain most things you need to know.
Please note the key contact for any maternity or paternity queries at NHS North Lancashire is Sarah Mackie
